Most brides choose to have bridesmaids and a pageboy, not least because they look soooo gorgeous - both on your special day and for eternity on celluloid. Apart from providing the 'aaah' factor, bridesmaids and pageboys are a must if you have little members of your family desperate to get a look-in at your wedding.Little girls (and grown up ones, too; especially if their name happens to be Katie Price) love to dress up like a princess; and the pretend world of the fancy dress box never quite matches up to the real thing.
In fact, how many of us treasure the memory of being a bridesmaid? One such women, who is aged 54 now, fondly recalled how she wore out her rhinestone embellished bridesmaid shoes, due to the fact that after the event she wouldn't take them off - ever. Including at bedtime and whilst playing in the orchard! Thankfully her heavenly bride bought her a bright shiny new pair. Needless to say, they too, met the same destiny!
Pageboys might not be quite as keen to don knickerbockers et al; meaning it's time to employ bribery tactics. Dangling a carrot goes around the world and back with four year-olds. The toy he covets - and there will always be one, will reveal instantaneous compliance.Shop around for your bridesmaids' and pageboy outfits once you have bought your wedding gown and the groom's outfit. That way, you can choose shades which will match your overall theme; colours are a key element.
Also, aim to buy your bridesmaids' dresses at least one month ahead of your special day. It may be tempting to sort the dresses out early. However, to avoid numerous alterations or a last-minute style or colour change, it's best to hold your nerve and wait until nearer the day of your wedding.
If this seems too last-minute a stretegy for your comfort, then you can always take your attendants on an earlybird shopping trip months before the wedding to find out exactly what's out there. This will no doubt go down a treat with would-be fairytale princesses, too!
Ask nicely, and you may be able to reserve your dresses until nearer the time. There is no harm in asking the question, is there?Do not be too set in your ways when venturing out on the search for attendants' outfits. You might like to head off down the newsagents and arm yourself with bridal magazines. That way, you can look through their fashion pages and cut out any ideas that take your fancy. Then you could knock up a scrapbook, and take it shopping with you. A picture speaks a thousand words and saves time trying to explain designs to a shop assistant who is already rushed off her tootsies!
Trying out a variety of shapes and styles on your mini supermodels will give you a real idea of what suits them and what doesn't. Keeping an open mind initially could bring some nice surprises into the bargain.
Taking your wedding gown into account is paramount, however. If your dress is a wonderful confection of romantic froth in satin and lace, then it would be appropriate to include frills and flounces for your attendants, too.
If, on the other hand, you have settled on something elegantly simple with a smooth silhouette, keep their dresses and suits subtle and understated to fall in line with the overall look.
